Dos and Don'ts

Japanese hair straightening is a popular hair treatment that can transform unruly, curly, or frizzy hair into sleek, smooth locks. However, this process involves the use of chemicals that can damage your hair if not done correctly. Here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind before and after your Japanese hair straightening treatment.

Dos

  1. Consult with a professional: It’s essential to consult with a professional hairstylist who is experienced in Japanese hair straightening. They can assess your hair’s condition and determine if the treatment is suitable for you.
  2. Prepare your hair: Before your treatment, make sure your hair is clean, dry, and free of any products. This will ensure that the chemicals are absorbed evenly throughout your hair.
  3. Use the right aftercare products: After your treatment, use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to maintain your hair’s health. These products are gentle and won’t strip away the natural oils from your hair.
  4. Protect your hair from heat: Heat can damage your hair, so it’s essential to use heat-protectant products before styling your hair with hot tools.

Don'ts

  1. Wash your hair immediately after the treatment: Wait at least 48 hours before washing your hair after the treatment. This will give the chemicals enough time to settle in your hair and ensure that the treatment lasts longer.
  2. Use hair ties or clips: Avoid tying or clipping your hair for at least three days after the treatment. This can create kinks or creases in your hair and affect the final result.
  3. Swim or sweat excessively: Avoid swimming or sweating excessively for at least three days after the treatment. The chemicals can react with the chlorine or salt in the water, causing your hair to become brittle and dry.
  4. Color your hair immediately after the treatment: Wait at least two weeks before coloring your hair after the treatment. This will allow your hair to recover from the chemicals used in the treatment.

In conclusion, Japanese hair straightening can be an excellent option for those looking for a long-term solution to manage their hair. By following these dos and don’ts, you can ensure that your hair remains healthy and beautiful after the treatment.
